When Home Doesn’t Feel Like a Place to Rest
You start feeling anxious days before you have to go home.
You find yourself mentally preparing for certain conversations, comments, questions or expectations.
Maybe you become a different version of yourself around your family. Maybe old arguments seem to come back. Maybe you feel guilty for wanting space. Or maybe nothing obviously “bad” happens, yet you still leave feeling emotionally drained.
Sometimes, going home can bring you closer to people you love.
And sometimes, it can bring you closer to parts of yourself you have worked hard to move beyond.
Family relationships can carry years of memories, roles, expectations, unresolved emotions and patterns. So even when you’ve changed, the environment around you may make it feel as though you’re stepping back into an older version of yourself.
The Weight of Going Home is a psychology-informed workshop about understanding that experience with more compassion and less self-blame.
This isn’t about deciding whether your family is “good” or “bad.”
It’s about understanding what gets activated when you go home and what you can do with those feelings.

Why this workshop is different?
Because “Just Ignore Them” Isn’t Always That Simple.
This workshop is…
Not About Blaming Your Family
We don’t reduce complicated relationships to “toxic” or “healthy.” We explore the patterns and emotions with nuance.
Not About Cutting People Off
Boundaries can take many forms. The workshop doesn’t prescribe distance, confrontation, or estrangement.
Focused on Your Experience
Instead of trying to change everyone around you, we explore what happens within you and where you have choice.
Psychology-Informed
We’ll look at family roles, emotional patterns, triggers, boundaries, and responses through a counselling psychology lens.
Compassionate, Not Prescriptive
You don’t have to arrive with a decision about your family. You can simply come with curiosity about your experience.
Practical
You’ll leave with reflection tools and strategies you can actually use when family interactions become difficult.
