When Your Space Starts Feeling Like Too Much

Sometimes it’s just one corner.
Then a table.
Then the chair where you’ve been putting things “for now.”
And before you know it, your entire space starts feeling like another thing you have to manage.
You look around and think:
“Where do I even start?”
“I’ll do it when I have more time.”
“I might need this someday.”
“I know I should get rid of it, but I can’t.”
“Why does cleaning my room feel so exhausting?”
Clutter isn’t always just about having too many things.
Sometimes objects carry memories.
Sometimes they represent a version of yourself you don’t want to let go of.
Sometimes making decisions about what stays and what goes becomes exhausting in itself.
And sometimes, when you’re already overwhelmed, your environment can start feeling like a reflection of everything else that feels unfinished.
How to Declutter Your Space is a psychology-informed workshop about exploring the relationship between your physical environment and your mental wellbeing.
We’ll look at the emotional and psychological reasons clutter can feel difficult to manage, how our relationship with possessions can develop, and what happens when our physical surroundings begin contributing to a sense of overwhelm.
This isn’t about becoming a minimalist.
It’s not about having a perfectly organised home.
And it’s definitely not about throwing everything away.
It’s about understanding your relationship with your space and learning how to create space more intentionally.

Why this workshop is different?

Because “Just Clean Your Room” Doesn’t Explain Why It’s So Hard.

This workshop is…
Not About Becoming a Minimalist
You don’t need to own fewer things to have a healthier relationship with your space. We’ll focus on intentionality rather than following a particular lifestyle.
Not About Having a Perfectly Organised Home
Your home doesn’t have to look Instagram-ready. The goal is to understand what makes your space work – or not work – for you.
Beyond Organisation Hacks
Decluttering isn’t always a storage problem. Sometimes, there’s an emotional or psychological reason a decision feels difficult.
Not About Shame
We won’t treat clutter as a sign of laziness, failure or lack of discipline. We’ll explore it with curiosity rather than judgement.
Psychology-Informed
We’ll explore emotional attachment, decision-making, overwhelm, identity, attention, habits and the relationship between environment and wellbeing through a counselling psychology lens.
Focused on Intentionality
The question isn’t simply “How much can I get rid of?” It’s also “What do I want my space to make room for?”
Practical & Reflective
You’ll leave with both a deeper understanding of your relationship with your environment and practical ways to begin creating space.
